A Licensed Family Child Care Home in Alameda, CA — Established 9/10/2001, 25 years of experience, genuine relationships, and a deep belief that every child deserves a safe, joyful place to grow.
Our Story
Little Crumbles Family Child Care was founded by Christine Kanbergs in Alameda, California. What started as a calling to nurture young children in a warm, home-like setting has grown into a trusted community resource serving infants and preschoolers for over 25 years. The home site is the same one I grew up in and raised my 5 children in. Significant upgrades have been made to the street level and yard of the home with wonderful memories. It is my joy to share it with children and their families.
Christine holds a Child Development Associate credential and has dedicated her career to creating environments where children feel safe, loved, and genuinely excited to learn. Every family that walks through our door becomes part of our extended family. We are reacquainting with grandparents who had their child enrolled 20 years ago.. Florida college friends ran into each other here. One had a referral from my son in New York who works with her sister. We are enrolling the 2nd child in families the end of this year and next year. Infant space are scarce. Touring and reserving enrollment early in pregnancy assures stress free months. We only reserve known spaces with a holding fee that is a guarantee as we do not double enroll.
We are licensed by the California Department of Social Services as a Large Family Child Care Home (License #013418921). We serve children with a unique Play-Based Program that is easily individualized for several children at the same activity.

Home away from home
Little Crumbles indoor space is warm and welcoming. Morning activities are planned for developing skills from easy to challenging. We quickly move outside. 70% of the day is spent outside, weather permitting. It is for active play, quiet learning, meals, building, art, circle time, discoveries and quiet contemplation. The garden setting is shaded by a tunnel canopy, shade screen, umbrellas, gazebo, vine covered pergola.
Safety is non-negotiable
CPR and first aid certified, with clear emergency procedures, secure outdoor spaces, and ongoing staff training. This includes Health & Safety Course and the Mandated Reporter renewal every 2 years. The site is securely gated and the spaces are continually monitored as required by State Regulations.
Literacy is developed through play
Our days are filled with intentional teacher directed and child-lead activities, 80% of Brain Development takes place before age 3. As a child plans and plays they are building their skills and growing their brain. Our Family Child Care Home supports active play, learning investigations beyond 4 walls.
Families are partners
We communicate in person, welcoming children and parents each morning and good byes at the end of the day. We use text messeages to notify and send pictures. We welcome parents questions and address concerns immediately.

Christine Kanbergs has been caring for young children in Alameda for over 45 years. She holds a Child Development Associate credential and is CPR and first aid certified.
Her approach is grounded in respect for children as capable and curious individuals. She believes the early years are a critical window for building confidence, language, and a love of learning — and she takes that responsibility seriously.
Little Crumbles accepts military fee assistance through CCYN, as well as subsidized care through Hively and Bananas. All Tuition is based on enrollment not attendance. Vacation and Holiday are paid.
